Video: Bill O'Reilly talks about Opie and Anthony
Comedy gone too far? Bill O'Reilly obviously thinks so. Below is a video from a segment in his show where he talks about Opie and Anthony's recent "Homeless Shopping Spree 2006" where they took a group of homeless people shopping in a mall, giving each $200 to spend on whatever they want.
The event also drew the attention of Boston's Mayor Tom Menino, who issued a statement after it aired this past weekend.

Comments
What this story fails to mention is the thousands of fans who spent thousands of dollars on the homeless and at the mall.
This lady makes a comment that this is not a representation of the homeless, that 2/3 are children and mothers. Yea, no sh** but it is not like homeless kids make good radio.
Were they mocking the homeless? Sure. They were mocking drunk old homeless guys who have given up on life, not people are temporary hard times.
This lady they interviewed should spend less time putting on pounds of make-uip and more time being honest. I bet she didn't see the event, talk to anyone over at O&A or knows what went on. She, just as O'Reilly, did not do her homework.
O-well, more buzz for the boys.
Where is the video of the Boys on Leno, Ryan?

Its funny how they did this the past 2 years and no news outlet picked up on it. that just goes to show that noone listens to them on XM. HA HA HA HA HA LMFAO!
it must suck to be such a failure on sat radio that you have to go crawling back to FreeFM to try to get an audience. P.S their ratings are horrible on FreeFM as well!

Must be a slow news week. Wow, a homeless guy had a beer! HOW COULD SUCH A THING HAPPEN??? Why isn't she speaking out against Anheuser-Busch?

i don't see this as bad.i see it as two guys showing their fans a good time give them some cash and a nice trip to a mall to say thanks for making their stations ratings go from 1.4 to 1.3 to 1.2. thanks fans.

who's this Stern guy you've named yourself after ?

O'Reilly has his head up his ass again. Who saw this coming?
On the other hand I think he did a fair job of articulating what he imagined O&A supporters would say. I think he's a better "journalist" when his guest agrees with him because then he has to play devil's advocate. It must tire him out to think so hard, but it makes for more thoughtful television.

Wow, this woman could just not get past the alcohol thing. Personally I don't recall anyone from the show mentioning any distribution of liquor - one shot of a guy with a beer bottle is pretty much what she's basing her reaction on.
>>On the other hand I think he did a fair job of articulating what he imagined O&A supporters would say.>>
That's because I think he's a closet O&A fan. ;-)

Bill's a douche. And not just because of this, but because he thinks there's this whole secular conspiracy going on. THERE IS NO WAR ON CHRISTMAS, BILL!!!

@ sternfan73
Sorry, O&A's ratings are 3-4 times that look at any book. In their most successful markets they are pulling a 6 - 7. Sure, you can take a couple of markets that they are not doing well in but as a whole their ratings are very solid and for a show that wasn't all that well known to begin with, and was off the air for over three years, to have the ratings they have achieved in 6 months is exceptional.

I hate to admit hating O&A but I hate BillO more than O&A.

I don't know..... O&A come across much more mean- spirited than I would like..... when a stunt like this happens, I think it shows their cruelity....
same with the Fatty Pig Fatty contest.

its too bad they didn't mention they were on xm. any publicity is good publicity. i don't think bill was harsh on o&a. this woman was a bit extreme. they gave the homeless a good time and it was entertaining to the fans.

I think Stern fans should understand how long it took their hero to beat a morning zoo in Philly.

i said the stations ratings not theirs.if they are pulling in a 6-7 alone , then no one is listing to the rest of the station in n.y.
Posted by: sternfan73 ? | December 22, 2006 11:58 AM
Ah, so you want them to broadcast more hours of the day. Let 'em know!

Ugh what a cunt of a woman. 1st she couldn't get past the alcohol issue, and then she throws in religion into it? What a hole.

@ Sternfan73,
No you didn't, you worded your posting to say that O&A was responsible for their stations poor ratings. If your English skills are poor then take a class but that's exactly what you said. You're right, no one is listening the rest of the day. That's not O&A's fault or problem it's the stations themselves.

WHAT A CUNT !!!
Posted by: Craskill ? | December 22, 2006 3:55 PM
Yeah, hello- who the HELL listens to O &A? They suck, they are boring- AND if they were doing such a great job on XM, why are they doing FREEFM?
I know, 35,000 listeners is a lot-Howard's got like 6 million- I don't see them doing any Letterman appearances, either-
Get those 2 losers off the air and send them back to Huntington Station.

Howard Stern is a liar!

Howard Stern's Math Doesn't Add Up
Howard Stern usually makes headlines for his appearances on David Letterman's late night program because of outrageous stunts. After last night's stop by the Ed Sullivan Theater, he's making them as "Bravo Sierra" is being called over the satellite radio personality's claims regarding Sirius Satellite Radio subscription counts.
"It is going so great," Stern said on Letterman's program last night. "We started out with 600,00 listeners. In one year - January will be one year - we now have almost six million."
That statement prompted a letter from WFNY (Free-FM)/New York PD John Mainelli to Sirius SVP/Communications Patrick Reilly asking, "Are you penny-ante Sirius people so desperate for subs these days that Howard Stern has to go on David Letterman as he did last night and flat-out lie -- brazenly and shamelessly? From '600,000 to 6-million subscribers in one year'? I thought he misspoke himself when I saw that in a Sirius transcript two weeks ago. But I guess this is how low he, you and Melvin have sunk."
Let's take a look at the numbers:
Stern announced his move to Sirius on October 8, 2004. According to their quarterly earnings report, Sirius closed out the third quarter of 2004 with 662,289 subscriptions. Sirius also announced at the same time that they had surpassed 700,000 subscriptions on October 18, 2004, ten days after Stern's announcement.
Meanwhile, XM announced in their quarterly earnings report that they had closed out the third quarter of 2004 with 2,516,023 subscriptions.
Using those numbers, if Sirius hits the low end of their year-end guidance of 5.9 million subscriptions, it will mean the company has added 5,237,711 million subscriptions since Stern's announcement that he would be joining the company. Meanwhile, if XM hits the low end of their year-end guidance of 7.7 million subscriptions, then XM will have added 5,183,977 subscriptions in the same time period.
The bottom line... In two years, not one year, as Stern claimed, Sirius will have gone from 700,000 to just under six million subscribers. And Sirius will have added just 53,734 more subscriptions than XM since Stern announced he was leaving terrestrial radio.
"You'd think this blatantly false public dissemination of information -- at a time when satellite radio is under severe attack on Wall Street -- is something the SEC and NASD would look into," wrote Mainelli in his email to Sirius. Whether that holds true or not remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain, the numbers don't add up to back Stern's statements.
