Video: Motley Fool talk Sirius-XM

Fool Video
This episode of "Fool Video," features The Motley Fool's Chris Hill with senior analyst Seth Jayson talking about the post-merger future of XM and Sirius. It's an interesting watch. I especially enjoyed the Braveheart reference.

(Side note: There's a certain level of personal amusement to see that "radiating dog" graphic showing up everywhere, especially since I created it before the merger was even announced. Funny stuff.)

I always thought it was a beautiful graphic... I guess it made an impression on others as well. You should have licensed it.

Heh.... he said COMPENTITION.

Anyway, I think they raised a good point about how broad the interest will be in comparison to the other (I love that they are finally calling it this) competition as in Mp3 and the like.

Anyone have any numbers on this?

I'm tired of those "fools" that don't know what they're talking about. iPods are NOT a sat radio killer! This doofus mentions the proposed "unlimited" song option apple is working on as if THAT would deter people from wanting Sirius. First of all...you CAN'T listen to new songs in the car...you have to access them via wifi....otherwise you have to take the time to CONSTANTLY download songs. Sat radio does all the work for you....constantly playing new songs....plus LIVE radio...sports....

It just makes me laugh how they gloss over such HUGE differences. I am like the majority of American drivers. I have an ipod. I LOVE it. But it's for when I'm walking around. When I'm in my car...the ipod goes off...and Sirius comes on. Terrestrial radio doesn't come close....who wants to listen to 10 minutes of commercials between songs? Not me.

Once this dawns on the numbskulls on wall street...and especially after the FCC approves the merger....this stock should finally take off. ;-)

I have to agree with you regan. (Although I hate ipods) I don't see why people would prefer actually having to do all that work, when they just have a radio in their car with all that content which includes things that in no way other digital media can bring.

However, they still compete for time. For example, someone may download a new album by their favorite band and listen to that, instead of listening to their SatRad, which they usually do. Will it get to the point where people listen to SatRad so little, that they no longer wish to pay the extra money? This could be an issue if that happens. But unlikely.

So, Regan.....I guess it's safe to say you're one of those "enthusiastic" shareholders they mentioned in the video? ;-)

Yes. YES I AM! They can't take our lives...but they'll NEVER.... TAKE....MY SIRIUS RADIO!!!

i'm so tired of all the negativity when it comes to satellite radio. Wake up people its here to stay. These people are running scared. This tech has much more to offer than meets the eye. You can't drive more than 30 miles in so calif without losing the signal on regular radio. What happens when your out in BF egypt. You lose everything, laptop, cell phone and radio. Get with the program dumb asses. Its here to stay!!! I love my SIRIUS, great job Mel !!!! Charles Scott

LOL regan gets a runner-up "line of the day" with that comment

You should sue, 100 bucks everytime anyone uses it =P

Why do people actually listen to their shit? Motley's a horrible website written by dumbasses who mention large companies in EVERY story to increase website traffic! They're a DISGRACE to ALL stock market news sites.

I used to have a sat radio and got rid of it becuase I like the subscription music I get from my Zune. Sat radio is great, but I basically get to be the PD of my own station with subscription music.

And by being the PD of your own station you are missing out as a real PD is knowledgeable in many areas of music, that's their job. You'll never be exposed to the artists that a real PD would know about. You'll just end up downloading songs from the same bands you always listen too. I never get the iPod. It's a fucking flash drive. A walkman that holds more songs. So what? I absolutely hated my iPod, never used it and ended up giving it away without a moments hesitation.

Ryan,

Big F'ing deal about you and the radiating dog.

I invented the fricking Internets (as George Bush like to calls it) ...How in the hell do you think I feel?

Al

P.S. My wife's thighs are HUGE baby!

Congrats Ryan. That's awesome that your logo has made it big time. I've always wanted to be able to do that.
