Video of XM's new Nashville studios - Orbitcast
Nashville's NewsChannel 5 has a nice look at XM Satellite Radio's new studios in Music City. XM's on-air personality and a familiar face in the area, Storme Warren, said it will be "the Times Square of Nashville."

XM program director Jon Anthony added that the hidden theater on the second floor will allow for live performances "that will broadcast live, simultaneously on XM, but also be a cool little live, local live music venue for Nashville."

Why are they spending money on studios?
They couldn't move in to the Sirius studios?

Siri is blowing cash faster than I can say wtf

I'm not sure, but I think Sirius broadcasts remotely from Nashville a lot of their superb Country-Western and Bluegrass programming. They could probably use this studio for one-on-one interviews with the artists, as well as the NYC studio. Country Western is much bigger on satellite than most people think.

because there isn't any room in the sirius offices and real estate costs in manhattan are a lot higher than in nashville

Where is the "synergy" in this move? Everyday it's a little more obvious everyone has been played by this merger.

XM's slate of country channels are much, much better than their Sirius counterparts and it's likely that as channels gets merged and dropped that the Sirius channels will disappear.

Unlike other forms of music where the artists are frequently in NY, with country radio you need a presence in Nashville in order to get access to the performers. XM has done a great job with all their various special events, live shows, exclusive broadcasts, etc... and that wouldn't be possible without a homebase in Nashville.

Believe me, Sirius XM knew they were building this new studio when the merger was first announced and they wouldn't have continued if they weren't going to use it.

Yahoo. This is great! Wonderful and well thought out way to spend mondy Mel! Now every tourist will buy satrad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This probably sounds like a dumb question, but which XM station will use the Nashville studios?

SWEET! I met Jon Anthony at the old location at the Country Music Hall of Fame a few years back. VERY COOL!

I agree, you don't typically hear country music from NY, so why not go to where the country music is? I only like a few country artists personally so I probably can't speak much for the quality of the country channels on both services as of right now, but this is definitely a smart choice. Having a presence at the hub of country music is a wise choice, you can't go wrong. and having those live performances can't hurt either.

if bubba moves out of his mothers basement he could use it.

Whats a "Bubba"?

My guess is that it'll be Highway 16, and possibly XM 10 (America) for their shows...Though, I wonder if Bill anderson will still do "Visits With the Legends" from the Country Music Hall of Fame, or if he'll move to the new place as well; I'll have to keep an eye on his blog to see if he says anything about it. But, I'd wager that all of the country channels with any live programming that originates out of Nashville will use it, but primarily Highway 16.

Location makes sense. Country music is way more a Nashville thing than an NYC or a DC thing. I'm also near-positive that beautiful, state-of-the-art facility costs less in a year than the monthly per-square-foot rent of 1 of the mini production studios at the NYC facility (whose lease is up somewhere between 2012 and 2015...Guess who'll be movin' to Jersey??).
