Ouch! Sorry O&A fans. That must have been so cringing if you're a fan. On Letterman they did fine but they bombed on Leno.

AIR, I am not sure if you are familiar with the way talk shows work, but the "host" asks the "guests" questions and the audience watches from seats behind the cameras, occasionaly reacting to the content of the show. In this case the audience were the ones laughing in the background.

I was thinking the same thing when I watched it. O&A were pretty good but Jay's audience sucks!

I was kind of disappointed, to be honest. They re-hashed the same stuff that they talked about on Letterman (why not bring up Baby Bird or Norton or ANYTHING else) and Anthony looked like he didn't know what to do with his face or hands when the primary medium was video. A lot of silly mugging during punch lines... does he do that for the Pal Talk cameras too?

Anyway they were pleasantly funny and probably not too risque for Leno's audience. I can't help but wonder if this is setting the table for some more West Coast affiliates...

MarkS, the crowd was not into it and laughing much simply because O&A are not funny. someone should clue Anthony in that his Leno and Stern imperonations are horrible.

I have XM and I've tried listening to these two. Problem: They just aren't funny. That was shown in this interview with Leno. There is nothing about them. They are just two regular Joes. Problem with radio/tv stars, you have to have something. Opie and Anthony don't have it.

how do these duds get ratings? not funny, not interesting. matthew woke me up at the end with the only bit of humor. anthony's danza impression was good, but the stern one sucked and the leno one sucked. enough with the hoo-hoo shit. why doesn't opie talk more?

I know that they felt they had to re-introduce themselves. That's fine. I don't know if objectively it was a successful appearance or not, but to me it was disappointing, because I'd heard them go over this all before.

In case any of you are in the mood to consider this rationally, note that this sort of appearance really puts them out of their element. It's not their kind of humor. They're talking to people who aren't in on any bits or get any references, so they're starting from scratch. They're, for once, actively trying to please instead of being able to hide behind the "we're just going to do our thing and go screw if you don't like it" schtick. And maybe most importantly, they have so little experience on TV that they're adapting on the fly to a totally new medium.

I think Opie was noticably uncomfortable with not being the guy behind the desk with all the power. And Anthony, like I said earlier, didn't know how to handle himself on TV. (Tony Kornheiser used to have some good stories about how hard it was to transition from his radio show to PTI... it happens to most people.) Neither "indictment" really speaks to a lack of talent though. The radio show's as tremendous as ever- if spots on Leno suck in more viewers, fine, if they don't, then who cares. But it's like Bruce Willis singing. If he flops it doesn't make him a bad actor.

Before the inevitable comparisons to Howard- who usually gets praise for his appearances- arrive, I just want to say that he kind of cheats. Especially on Letterman he hides uncomfortability by being as manic and over-the-top as possible, like the new Richard Simmons. The more subdued interviews on the smaller shows are "serious Howard" where he acts like he doesn't want to get laughs, he's got such important things to talk about. It's much, much harder to be funny while just being yourself. Credit to O&A for at least trying, and for the most part succeeding.

"Any publicity is good publicity, as long as they spell your name right" -- is the old saying. That has especially been the case in the broadcast business.

I'm not going to debate who did what and who did it better... all I know is that their appearances were great for the promotion of satellite radio.

Letterman did a 3.6 rating with Stern that night, good for about 3 million households. And Leno did a 4.5 rating with O&A, that was good for about 3.8 million households -- that's a lot of eyes seeing about satellite radio in the last week.

Which is good.

My buddy calls me and says, "dude, im tivo'n Leno to watch the Killers and jesus, Leno is hard to watch. Boring as fuck. They got these two radio guys who are really boring and some other asshole fuck, i think its kenny g".

Okay, so I'm a O&A fan... and I find the show more creative and funny than Howard Stern. Still, this appearance sucked. Hoo Hoo Howard is just better at the Late Show circuit and publicity etc.

I'm glad my son's show was syndicated. He would have starved depending only on his XM show.

Yea i don't think they did that good of job either really. I feel these radio hosts have a big ego howard obviosly also...but they come off like assholes. Only one guy talked the whole time they other stood there uselessly. And atleast howard has earned the right to be an asshole.

Howard can do something that no one on tv or radio can...even if you hate the SOB you will be promised a great interview that reveals something personal and interesting about a high profiled individual.

The main point i think is they did nothing to promote there show. Howard atleast showed some clips talked about some new things and some people. O and A were talkin about something 5 years ago and like someone said before didnt mention things like norton. They onloy get that one chance to sell themselves, maybe they just didnt have much to sell.

Oh the same old crap about fridays, vacation, ect.. GUESS WHAT its been this way for 15 years!!!!! 3 weeks off during christmas, vacation out the ass, leaving early....WHO CARES.

i know i joke about the FreeFM part of O&A but when listening to both FreeFM/XM parts of O&A i see a difference. But really if you complain about friday being off at least its not 3hrs of watered down, commercial content everyday...

As for fridays, he does 6-11(12) monday-thursday with 1+ hour less of commercials. I think even with friday's off i get more content then before

As for the repeats there is alot that i have never heard so many years ago, that and keeping a full time job does not allow for many people to catch EVERYTHING he says.

The Howard Stern Tribute Band brought the hate on themselves by daring to act like they're even in the same league as Stern. Puh-leeease. Those two hacks aren't fit to lick Howard's jock.

Howard Stern is a washed up nothing just begging for subscribers by giving out free Sirius Receivers to the entire Letterman audience. He is so desperate for people to listen to his awful, unfunny, uninteresting, repetitive show. I subscribe to both XM (for Ron & Fez and music) and Sirius (for NFL Radio and music) and have given his show a fair shot but it’s awful. Just because his show is uncensored doesn’t make him funny. Personally I thought Opie and Anthony’s appearance on the Tonight Show was very average at best. Anthony’s Tony Danza impression was dead on and hilarious but besides that nothing special. I’m not a big fan of Opie & Anthony but when they are occasionally funny they are so much funnier then Howard Stern is now.

Enjoy Howard Stern the one trick pony exclusively on Sirius 100 and 101. By the way even less talent on Sirius 101. Howard was so desperate to fill his second station he had to hire Bubba The Love Sponge and Ferrell. Also other not listen able programs on there. What garbage.

I wouldn't give up my XM because Ron & Fez still do there original three hours just for XM. Unlike Opie & Anthony’s horrible CBS deal Ron & Fez fans don’t get screwed out of XM content. From what I heard XM also plans to air the CBS show on XM as well.

Also XM's music to me is great. I find a lot of people seem to disagree though. I do enjoy some of the music channels on Sirius too but their playlist tends to be very terrestrial radio like.

O&A don't wanna be Stern but Stern claims everyone wants be him because he's so full of himself.

Because Letterman and Leno brought up Howard when they were on and didn't mention O&A when he was on. Do you really think Howard would've allowed Letterman or Leno to mention them? O&A didn't bring up Howard, they were asked about him.

Besides all of that, I have to say their appearance on Letterman was a home-run, in my eyes. Leno, on the other hand, eeeeesh, definite douche chills. But I partly blame Leno because he sucks at interviewing people. The conversation was all over the place and everyone was stepping on each others' lines. I personally cannot wait until Conan takes over the Tonight Show. It can't happen soon enough.
