Video: Sirius and XM on the iPhone - Orbitcast

Video: Sirius and XM on the iPhone

If you weren't one of the lucky few selected for the iPhone app private beta, have no fear. Because Chris Pirillo was kind enough to make a video showing off the new StarPlayr app and all its capabilities.

So go ahead and watch the video or check out additional screenshots here.

Does this app allow anyone in the world who owns a iPhone access to this service if they have an account? If so, how many iPhones have been sold outside the U.S.?

Ha! I will be purchasing an Iphone now...That's nice!

I want that wallpaper in the background... anyone know what it is?

I can't wait until this is made public, hopefully more beta invites will come Orbitcast's way

Chris is an Warrior. He is getting ready to drive to Macworld and at 1AM had time to do a Blog, Screenshots and a Video.

Thank you Chris!

Any idea on how long will it take before app is released. Put me down if more betas are made available.

this makes all sirius xm portables obsolete, well unless you want the whole line-up. I suggest Sirius Xm scratch its portable reciever lines and invest it is repeater network.

The app is working perfectly for me. Love it! It is one of two apps I have been anxiously waiting for (the other is a SlingPlayer client for iPhone).

Pulsar looks good and I already have Audio Hijack Pro, but I don't use OSC 10.5, so no go for me.

I am beta testing USirius as well... Works great so far. Have to test in the car and the street.

iPhone mobile app vs. Mac... mmmm... Is that apple and apples or apples and oranges?

Anyways.. I'll go with the mobile app anyday and I heard it will be 12.99 at the app store where the tethered Pulsar is 14.99, plus the makers of uSirius StarPlayr have a free mac version called StarLightXM that does the same thing plus more like its own TimeMachine with Flip4Mac.

RA is coming late to the game.

When will this damn thing be released

Watching everyone with Sirius finally on their phones is super painful to have to watch. I need that app asap! Anyone wanna transfer their beta user status over to me? Ha! Yeah right.

Well I hope you are all enjoying it! Beta test it nice and fast so it can be released soon!

How is the battery doing with this app?
I echo others...when will this be in the app store?

Will this work on the iTouch ?

The iTouch doesn't exist, it will however work on the IPOD TOUCH! (geez, people, get it right!)

Seems a little crazy to think something like this will REPLACE a regular XM/SIRIUS radio. Battery life must be atrocious, a data play is WAYYY more expensive than XM/SIRIUS, and let me know when I can replay, record, TuneSelect, etc.

I see this technology as a convenience when you're away from your radio, but certainly isn't going to help their bottom line (which is why they don't make the app themselves).

And try listening to 64kbps Windows Media, transcoded to whatever then hell makes it work on an iPhone to boot. So let's keep this in prespective a bit.

Oh, and iPhone lovers, we've been doing this on WinMo for 2 years now ;)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnd the video no longer works. Damn.

Battery Life:

Internal iPhone Battery tests conducted by NiceMac on a 32k stream on a full charge with screen off approx. 75% of the time:

over WiFi 6 Hours
over Cellular 4-5 hours

When I conducted the WiFi test myself, I was first thinking, this will drain in 2-3 hours no problem, I'll be done with this test by time to put the kids to bed. It ran from 6PM to midnight. Now that's impressive.

It's not exactly transcoded. It is really just decoded and played back natively just like most other audio codecs do. Transcoding to me implies decompressing to raw audio then re-compressing to another format like AAC or MP3. StarPlayr as far as I know simply decodes it to a raw format that the iPhone automatically recognizes.

People reeeallllly need to stop thinking 6 hours of battery life is acceptable. 6 hours of battery life is AWFUL, ever time, always, on ANY device.

Six hours playing continously is quite good actually. Most people who use the phone won't play it that constantly. With email, phone and web. The average user will be able to go the entire day from a full charge for 12 hours.

If you to play it for longer than that there is an invention called the Portable Car Charger.

Amen. Whenever someone says iTouch I want to call child services on them!
