VolkswagenCustomers who purchase a Sirius-equipped "Certified Pre-Loved" Volkswagen vehicle will now be getting a 3-month trial offer of the "Sirius Everything" package.

It's all part of a continuing effort to access potential subscribers purchasing pre-owned vehicles. XM currently has a deal with Acura, Honda and GM. Now this efforts has been extended to Volkswagen - the biggest European car maker.
"Volkswagen is consistently looking for new ways to position our 'Certified Pre-Loved' program as industry leading," stated Chris Hoehner, General Manager VW Fleet & CPO. "We feel this program helps enhance our value proposition and continues to strengthen our pursuit to provide the best possible customer experience."

"The launch of this certified pre-owned program strengthens our shared commitment to give drivers the very best audio experience possible," said Steve Cook, Group Vice President and General Manager, Sirius XM Radio. "Volkswagen's award-winning 'Certified Pre-Loved' program is part of our expanded offering of the best audio entertainment in certified pre-owned vehicles."

Volkswagen has offered Sirius beginning with its 2007 model year vehicles. Sirius is currently standard on the GTI, GLI, Eos, New Beetle, New Beetle convertible, Passat, Passat wagon and Touareg. Sirius is also standard on select Tiguan, Jetta and Rabbit packages.

Why VW? Why try to get your customers involved in a "merge" MONOPOLY? What's next? Giving all your customers a crutch? It's the same thing.

FU Melvin

buying foreign auto's is not cool. Only those desperate to stroke themselves buy foreign vehicles. Just like the newbs and suckers which are dumb enough to pay for radio.

ryan you got a plug on stern good job listen to the rap up show
they quoted you "FUCK"

This is great news! this shows the great relationships that SIRIUS XM have with their OEM partners.

when the original purchaser/leaser trades/hands in their used car, they typically disconnect the service. this allows the new owner to experience the great programming SIRIUS XM has to offer and will most likely convert to new subscribers.

Congrats to Mel and the gang. im sure we'll see more deals like this with their other OEM partners.

"when the original purchaser/leaser trades/hands in their used car, they typically disconnect the service. this allows the new owner to experience the great programming SIRIUS XM has to offer and will most likely convert to new subscribers."

No you got that wrong SIRIUS XM fan. "when the original purchaser/leaser" free siriusxm trial runs out 99% never continue and become subscribers. With VW doing the 3 month trial on Certified Pre-Owned vehicles it only again replays the cycle of "the original purchaser/leaser" never continuing the service and becoming subscribers, heck they now even get to learn just how bad quality siriusxm is, bad move VW letting a 3rd party company try to sucker your customers into poor service contracts.

This is just another desperate move by a quickly failing siriusxm radio.

The question is, how many people are buying used VW's? Might need to talk to some of the other OEMs like Honda.

Another solid move by the management of SIRI. Kudos.

There are millions of dormant radios out there and it makes perfect sense for SIRI to give the new owners a taste of the quality programming that sat rad offers.

@ Oh MY,

The long time followers of this site are well aware its the same 5 people who post the same negative comments all day and every day. What you 5 post do not have a negative impact on people who come here for information, nor do you have a negative impact on potential subscribers.

The thousands of others that come here are fans of the SIRIUS XM service and enjoy the hard work and time that Ryan puts in to keep this blog running.

You and your 4 buddies can continue to come here and attack Ryans posts. The only thing you guys are doing is providing a good laugh for the others on here with your un informed/uneducated comments.

Thanks for the laughs and i look fwd to reading more of your pointless complaining. Your dedication to this site shows how much of an impact satellite radio has on the average Joe's life.

Just a tip: If you put the energy into educating yourselves and getting real jobs, you would have the cash to afford the awesome service millions of us enjoy everyday. I know you guys are just jealous you cant listen in on the outstanding programming and content SIRIUS XM delivers, for that all of us here on Orbitcast really feel sorry for you guys.

HaHaHaHaHaHa

Listen -YOU HAVE NO IDEA - NOW I KNOW XACTLY WHY-

You Are Really Ignorant

VW Is A Better Quality Vehicle Then Many Of Our Vehicles...

And Its Not Only VW How About Other Leading Vehicle Makes Like Audi And Many Others

Seems Like You Never Had A Car Before lol

Dude, I tipped you off to Carmax's 3 month dealio on used vehicles in May. :p

http://twitpic.com/6c95s

What? How about because we appreciate that the likes of BMW actually engineer a decent car that's fun to drive? Maybe I bought one because I like a RWD vehicle with good balance.. Or because I enjoy wood trim that doesn't look like it was printed on a Lexmark? Most people that rag on German car owners either 1) Could never afford one and/or 2) Have never driven one long enough to appreciate it.

That being said, I will admit that a good chunk of BMW/Benz buyers are yuppies who need to fill their heads, but that's no different than the buy who blings out his Chrysler 300 to look like a Bentley.

Btw, many "Foreign" cars are made here in America, vs. the Mexican/Canadian GM and Ford vehicles with engines from China.

So how many parked cars does this add to Melvin's delusional "Sub count"?

That's a good move. I'm guessing that VW pays for the 3 month subscription (or it's included in the price of the car)?
Anyways, conversion rate of about 50% means there are about 8-9 million dormant radios out there. Hopefully Sirius will be able to follow up on this deal by signing up more OEM partners and hopefully be able to convert some of those to permanent subs.
I'll probably sign up if they give me 3 months free ...

Exactly, that was the first thought I had. They will immediately count every radio in every car as a sub to make the loss of subs look much better than is really is. While it's great to get a radio in every car, I see this as nothing more than a deal to pump up the sub numbers through accounting tricks. Add them to the pile of other nonpaying subs in unsold cars.

More of Melvin's scheme's, this one being done to try and fool Melvin's masta John Malone. Forget it Melvin you will always be John Malone's bitch. Those poor VW owners being fooled into thinking this is a perk.

FU Melvin!
FU foreign auto's
FU those too stupid to buy American, from American auto makers.

Your whining never ends!

You must activate the radio with a valid credit card before they send service to the unit. Most of these used cars are lease returns or very new trade ins, the previous owner would have the opportunity to transfer their existing account to a new radio, either a plug and play/portable or a oem stereo via its s.i.d number. Most new cars have an existing siriusxm "brain" already installed that is given its own s.i.d number. If you buy a newer used vehicle, chances are you could activate the sirixm by just calling and registering the s.i.d number. Basically what I'm saying is, to get the free 3 months, you would have to register your credit card, no charges apply, after the free trial you would have the chance to sign up or cancel.

This is siriusxm's new scheme. Even with new cars they claim they have to set up the free new account which will carry on after the free months unless the person calls to cancel.

To get the free 3 months, you would have to register your credit card, no charges apply (they claim), after the free trial you would have to call and cancel or your account will start being charged.

Wonder how many suckers this scheme will net.

Ryan,

No Rosie Radio post?

Rosie Radio, Jon Zellner leaving. XMFan.com, DRC are all on it.

Orbitcast: *crickets*

Maybe you don't understand how Sirius counts subs. As long as it's in the car, whether it's a paying sub or a free trial or even if that car is sitting on a lot unsold, it is counted as a paying sub.

This deal keeps those numbers up.

Wacko Jacko is dead .

So by your theory, every radio, plug and play, portable and factory receiver is counted once its manufactured? Get your shit straight, stop your fuckin whining. They may count a free trial as a sub, but its been proven that about sixty percent of free trials extend contracts. Do you really think they count every reciever as a sub? You cant be that fucking stupid, are you? They count the amount of manufactures that install oem radios, but they dont consider them subs. I cant believe you really believe your own theory. I think its more of your sarcastic crap.

Why would there be a Rosie post? The roaches from the virus can't complain until she brings in more subscribers or has more listeners than oral n anal

It's not a theory, it's how they count their subs and it's no secret. PnP's, portables or other retail radios aren't counted unless activated but yes, every single radio in every new car, whether it's in a free trial period or sitting unsold on a lot, is counted as a paying customer. At last count that number was about 1 million unsold cars counted as paying subs. This deal allows them to start counting used cars sitting on lots as paying subs too. Get it? Good. And less than 50% subscribe after the trial period, a number that continues to decline and many of those that do sign up quit within a year. "Sarcastic crap? Nothing I wrote was sarcastic, just factual.

There aren't any free trials. The car company pays for 12 months free subscription according to whatever rate they have in their contract. So even if the car sits in the lot, Sirius is still making money out of it.
Also, about 50% convert.

Show me a fact that counts unregistered and non activated radios being counted as subscriptions. You are right about the conversion rate, its at 44.9%, this number declines when less new cars are being made. Its amazing that they can come up with a conversion rate percentage when, according to you, they were already counted as subscriptions. Your argument contradicts itself. LOL. The oem's are counted because the installation is considered a "subscriber acquisition cost" to attract new subscribers. Auto manufactuers do not install sat radio for free! In regards to this article, the SAC goes down when they "recycle" oem units in used cars. You should show me that fact anyway, I'm really interested in seeing it. Good luck.

Here you go sweetie. Just one of many articles on the subject right here at Orbitcast. Google "Sirius Parking Lot Subs" and you''ll have a wealth of articles about the practice.

http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/xm-with-parking-lot-subs-xm-would-have-108-million-subscribers.html

A few posts ago you said the conversion rate was 60%, now it's 45%. Seems like your numbers are pretty shaky. Your sources for the 60%?

LOL's for queers. LOL!!!!!

The conversion rate goes down or up with the manufacturing of new cars, last time I checked it was just shy of sixty, I rounded up. When I checked the first quarter earings report, I learned it was forty five. If you look at the quarter report, you will see that sirixm does not count these parking lot subs, they do count promo subs. If sirius counted these in the past, I would not know. I agree, lol is for queers, I was a little fucked up when I wrote it. sorry.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/SIRIUS-XM-Radio-Reports-First-prnews-15162981.html

It's never been even close to 60%. In general it's been right at 50% and that doesn't count the people who cancel soon after becoming paying subs. The long term conversion rate is very poor, well below 50%.

Sirius does count parking lot subs. They are also be called promo subs. If a car is unsold on a lot but has a promo radio in it, it is counted as a sub. Sirius has always done this. They make no bones about it. This is my issue with the VW deal. It allows them to count not only new cars but also used ones, sold or not, as paying subs.

At last count Sirius admitted about 11% of their subs were parking lot subs. That's about 1.9 million subs. That's a shitload of number fudging.

Wouldnt the radio have been counted the first time around? What do they do if the previous owner signs up? How would sirius know if the car was sold considering the fact that the radio didnt need to be activated to be counted? If this what a promo sub is considered, wouldnt all oem be considered promo since they were counted before they were activated?

You were right about the conversion rates, I thought I had heard from xm that the average was near sixty, I was wrong, my bad.
