Who will be the next FCC Chairman?

Obama, Clinton, McCain
The next President will not only get a cozy seat in the Whitehouse, but also gets the power to place positions throughout the capitol - one of those being the next chairman of the FCC. And even though there's still three candidates fighting to become the leader of the free world, that doesn't mean we can't speculate right?

The Hollywood Reporter helped us embark down this road of speculation by researching and digging up which "friend of a friend" likely has the juice to grab that position at the Commission.

Here's the breakdown:

If Hillary Clinton wins...
  • Then it seems that Susan Ness, a former commissioner and a fundraiser/former campaign worker for President (Bill) Clinton would likely bag the spot. She has been actively campaigning for the senator and was named a "Hill Raiser" for raising more than $100,000 for Clinton and her campaign. Not only would Hillary be the first female president, but if Ness gets the job she'd be the first female FCC chairman.
If Barack Obama wins...
  • This one's not as clear. But should Obama win, Julius Genachowski, a former aide to chairmans Hundt and Kennard and a close friend of Obama's since they attended Harvard Law School is on the not-so-short list. He's a major fundraiser for the senator and introduced him to Hundt, Kennard and their followers.
  • Blair Levin, a name which might sound familiar as he's an analyst with Stifel Nicolaus, was also a top adviser to former chairman Reed Hundt and has also been mentioned as a possibility.
  • Then there's Obama's policy director Karen Kornbluh, who also worked at the commission under Hundt and Kennard.
  • Don Gipps, an FCC veteran who was former Vice President Al Gore's domestic policy adviser and is now a top executive at Level 3, an Internet "backbone" operator.
  • Larry Stcikling, former chief of the FCC Common Carrier Bureau and an Obama campaign worker, also has been mentioned.
  • Michael Copps and Jonathan Adelstein (the two Democrats on the FCC) also can't be ruled out. Copps has been on the commission the longest but Adelstein also has ties to Obama: His former boss former, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, is an Obama backer.
If John McCain wins...
  • Former McCain staffer and current Disney lobbyist Bill Bailey is on the list, though Bailey has told friends that he is not interested in the job.
  • Google counsel Pablo Chavez and FCC staffer Maureen McLaughlin, are also in the running according to The Hollywood Reporter.
  • Then there's Rick Davis, the campaign manager for McCain 2008 who's lobbied for Verizon and SBC
  • And Charles Black, a top political adviser to McCain's campaign, is also a lobbyist who counts AT&T among his clients.
  • Still, a lobbyist may be avoided as it may not go well with McCain's anti-lobbyist message. One additional thing that The Hollywood Reporter notes: McCain, with his experience as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee for six years, knows more about the FCC's inner workings than either Clinton or Obama. As a result, he would be "the first former Commerce Committee president," according to an industry source.

I think Rose Hagan would be good

I think it's common knowledge that all poloticians lye, and passed on that statement, I'm skeptical of all three. However, based solely on his stem cell polocy I hope Obama wins.

policy - take embryos from one of the thousands of kids we kill in abortion and use them to try to help someone who is not/known to be destined to die soon.

Who ever it is will have to deal with whats left of sat radio after this "merger" kills the entire industry.

I wish the "Anonymous Coward" names would just go away. If you want to make a post, your name and IP address should appear. I hate pussies.

"I wish the losers which use fake names would just go away. If you want to make a post, your REAL name and IP address should appear. I hate pussies." (like John McCain)

As a poster said above I will appoint a individual to head the FCC who will uphold the LAW and keep the consumer above MONOPOLY'S such as the merger Siruis wants after they buy xm. The consumer is getting screwed by this action. My appointment to the FCC will be more than able to clean up the mess which once was satellite radio, if this merger goes through satellite radio will be over, even the sat radio fanboys will wake up to the truth sometime.

John McCain - ROFL!!! Nicely done.

Boardroom Jimmy would make a great FCC Chairman. Sensible, down to earth, a real man of the people. He can't be influenced by the douches over at the NAB.

And ol' tuna cunt isn't gonna have to worry about choosing a FCC Chair nor any other office because before long she'll be dropping out.

"she'll be dropping out." just like the sat radio industry if this merge is allowed to happen.

OBAMA is the one who should be dropping out!

Hillary is more electable than that racist.
