Why Satellite Radio should NOT hire Mancow

MancowWith the recent firing of Mancow from his flagship station Q101, the question has come as to where this guy will go. Mancow needs to find a flagship station to broadcast from, and quickly, or he needs to find one quickly as he's syndicating to smaller markets.

Regardless of the self-promoting hype that Mancow is spewing, there's really no reason why satellite should sign him on (or terrestrial for that matter). Here's a couple reasons as to why.

In the most recent Arbitron ratings covering the first quarter, Mancow's "juggernaut" numbers were lack luster to say the least:

Persons 12+ (11th place)
Persons 18-34 (3rd place)
Persons 24-54 (12th place)

Men 18-34 (2nd place)
Men 18-49 (3rd place)
Men 25-49 (5th place)
Men 25-54 (7th place)

Not necessarily the most impressive, so it's not like he'll bring along any serious number of listeners. And even though he's syndicated in 22 markets, only 6 of those markets are in the top 50 with less than half in the top 100 [Chicago Tribune].

The self-proclaimed "King of Free Media" (another reason not to hire him - aside from the douche-chilled picture seen above) also hasn't done a very good job of staying on the good side of both XM and SIRIUS' lead talkers.

After mailing Howard Stern a box of human shit (which was opened by an 18-year old intern), a furious Stern said he would skullfuck Mancow's recently deceased father's corpse (he recently reiterated this promise on Sirius in March). Mancow also isn't buddy-buddy with Opie & Anthony (anyone recall specific incidents? I can't remember any other than that they hate each other).

So aside from not bringing a significant audience with him - signing on Mancow would be a tarnish on the images of both XM and SIRIUS' top talk entertainers but with essentially no advantages. Bubba the Love Sponge is one thing, but the battle between Stern and Mancow was a bit higher profile. The loss of credibility with either Stern's or O&A's listeners would be tremendous.

Right now, Mancow's only real asset is his relationship with Fox & Friends - but that can be replaced... easily.

Let's see... Mancow begged O&A's agent (also his agent I think) to have a meeting with them about trying to get him on WNEW (I think he wanted to do PM drive, with them moving to AM drive - not that Howard would have allowed THAT to happen on another Infinity station in NYC). They refused, and after they were canned, he was on TV and said "I know these guys, I've met them, they're a$$holes" or something like that - Opie has said after hearing that comment his brother went on the internet to look for a plane ticket to Chicago to punch Mancow.

Another good reason why I would not want to hire Mancow if I worked for either company:

Satellite radio is finally being respected as a legitimate talk source of entertainment. Aside from the hirings of Ferral and Bubba, both sirius and xm have a lot to offer.

By picking up Mancow, either company will look like the place where washed up talk hosts go when they cant get another job. How is anybody going to decide to go satellite if they see it as a graveyard?

(typekey isnt working)

i dont see where he would fit on sirius. there afternoons are lined up with great programing.the mornings on 102 i think are repeats so theres always outQ

Opie has said several times that they (O&A) have the same agent (presumably Super Agent Bob Eatman) as Mancow and that Mancow has attempted to use that connection whenever possible. One would certainly assume that Mancow is begging Eatman to work his XM magic (or Free FM magic) and get him a new job.

Knowing that Mancow aspires to be Sean Hannity, could you imagine Mancow on the XM Right channel (or whatever the conservative talk channel is called)? He certainly won't end up on XM202.

i heard there was a fire on the blue line yesterday. that's where mancow needs to end up. in a burning el car.

For the love of all things holy do not sign him Sirius!

90s on 9. He could play all the hits from back when he had listeners.

"90s on 9. He could play all the hits from back when he had listeners."

Great idea!!! now if xm could only find a way to get howard on their 80's channel...

There's nothing worse than listening to a phoney ass. I hope XM would spend money to hire talent - NOT Mandouche.

MarkS. If howard were going to be on XM's 80's channel than Sirius can put O&A on their, "I don't give a shit channel."

You O&A fans that listen :) to Howard will understand.

What I would recommend for 'Mancow' is a complete identity change, starting with his god-awful alter-ego. If you're trying to distance yourself from the 'morning zoo' personality you started out as, why not go all the way?

Use your real name, and start out small on a conservative talk platform, *possibly* on satellite radio. I don't think any of the big names are going to want to be associated with him (i.e. Hannity), but if it's credibility he's looking for, it can't hurt to tone down the awfulness that is his current persona.

So it's safe to say that none of us knows?

Mancow tried to start a Whip It Out Wednesday promotion. Thats one reason why O&A dont like him. That and he just plain stinks.

I'd almost put money on the fact he will end up at Sirius. I cant see why not. Howard singed Bubba (who bashed him), and Scott Ferrele (who is also totally worthless).

"Right now, Mancow's only real asset is his relationship with Fox & Friends - but that can be

Is that really any kind of big deal? He's on a show that relatively few people watch for, what, five minutes a day? Eh.

Mancow should be picked up by XM. This is a given and natural. He'll be shitting Howard's bed in 15 years.

he'll be around old radio. if imus can survive , he can

If Howard hires Mancow I will apply too. Hell, everyone at Orbitcast will have their own show! Sweet.

I have emailed a few people I know at XM, and I can confidently say he will NOT be hired by XM.

There's always WorldSpace...

Those crazy Africans would listen because they would mistakingly think his show is about cattle.

They will be disapointed when they discover his show isn't nearly as exciting as a cattle discussion show.

Well let's look at the parallels.

Mancow is a person that hated stern but is now a suck up.

Bubba and Ferral hated Stern but they are now suck ups.

hmmmm

time out here.the stern hes been talking to is MIKE STERN a guy that oversees the syndication of the mancow show.howard has said he has listen to show and its unlistenable.

He's not saying it's a big deal. He's saying it's all Mancow's got.

Mancow will return, and when he does, remember this post!
