Willie's Place on XM Satellite Radio

Well well, looks like Willie's Place is going to XM afterall. XM Satellite Radio just announced that country music legend Willie Nelson will join XM, to launch "Willie's Place" (XM 13), formally known as "Hank's Place."

In his new role, Nelson will provide creative direction for the channel, as well as contribute exclusive programming to "Willie's Place" and other XM music channels.

"Willie's Place" will begin broadcasting July 10.

In addition to changing the channel name, XM is building new studios for "Willie's Place" in Carl's Corner, TX, located in the Willie Nelson's BioDiesel Truck Stop. "Willie's Place" will begin broadcasting live from Carl's Corner in 2007.

Willie Nelson is very popular with truckers (a key community for satellite radio). Peter Bell, a Texas biodiesel supplier said it perfectly to Wired News:

"What Willie brings to this is the ability to communicate directly with a truck driver. That kind of community is hard for people to get to. When he starts talking, these folks really listen to him.... It's like having Tiger Woods talk about golf clubs."

I'd like to be the first person to gloat about being right that it was going to be XM...

::takes faggoty Anthony bow::

....did ya?

Note that I wasn't the first person to guess they would be on XM, only the first to *gloat* about it.

I'm also smiling, because I once read on a web site about satellite radio that it takes less muscles to smile than it does to frown...

Pete - Nice guess, since: (1) he was going to one of two places; and (2) he already had a relationship with XM. Perhaps you can help me with my powerball picks. (just messin' with you!)

iband - see the original post about the trademark filing for 'Willie's Place':

Quote:

"UPDATE: Interesting. The Attorney of Record is Robert A. Rosenbloum... the same Attorney of Record for the Radio Margaritaville filing. Me thinks this'll be a new SIRIUS show."

Oh, and the 'Anonymous Coward' post was from me as well. Damn malfunctioning cookies!

The attorney of record being the same met very little. I was banking on XM since Willie already had a relationship with XM and there is a huge Willie photo (autographed at XM's HQ - just 2.5 miles from my office).

I think it's a good thing for XM and its country fans (of which I am not one -- country isn't my thing, but the following is huge).

Well I'm no truck driver, just an industrial equipment sales dude, but this sure is great news to me!

would like info on where willies place is located and a phone number so i could call for reservations. that you

I think satellite radio is the best thing that has happened for our music since Leo invented the Telecaster guitar! I was listening to one of your Deejays talking about Hockey and mentioning the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks are my team, so I just want to clarify the pronouciation of Canuck. It is not pronounced Ca-nuke, it is pronounced Ka(soft a) nuck rhymes with luck. As Canadians are also referred to as Canucks (in general) I just thought I'd clear this up.
Thanks for the REAL country music,
Your friend,

Willies Place is playing a lot of music you won't find anywhere else on a national network. I know because I have played with some of them and am proud of it. I used to live in Crowley TX. I would like to send you one of my CDs also but I need an address. I stoped at Carls Corner last spring. I see you are starting from scratch . It has been several years but I have done some shows there a long time back. Keep playing those TX artists, there are a lot of fans in the U S A. Bill Hendren

Thanks, Best music anywhere. cannot go a day with out Willie's place XM radio

I just got my xm radio installed and Willie's Place is the only station I listen to. I am a 77 year old musician (fiddler and singer) Willie's plays all the good songs that I have done through the years. I played a couple of shows in Amarillo at the fairgrounds and was on the show with some very good musician. I would like very much to send you a CD and see how it goes. My latest one is mostly Bob Wills music. Junior Daugherty

Need to know how to contact Willie's place. (phone or mailing address). Desperately want a CD of "Where Can You Go After Texas" (Darrel McCall) for a 80+ Texas lady who now lives in Illinois but who's heart is still in Texas. Can anyone help????
