Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) has come out in support of the Sirius-XM merger, it was revealed in a recent letter to the FCC.
The organization, which advocates for over 500,000 members, noted that the merger will allow for more opportunities for both female and minority programmers and greater choices for all consumers. They also feel the merhger provides a number of important economic benefits for small businesses, clearly benefiting the public interest,
"WIPP believes approval of the merger between Sirius and XM will substantially enhance programming choices by creating a stronger satellite radio company." wrote Barbara Kasoff, President of WIPP. "In turn, it will elevate the quality and choice of other service providers allowing for the improved diversity and quality of an already robust and competitive market."
WIPP joins Women involved in Farm Economics (WIFE) as the second women's group coming out in support of the merger.
"Especially relevant to WIPP membership is the prospect of increasing the number of channels offering small business content, particularly issues of special interest to women and minorities in business," WIPP wrote.

Where do all these advocacy groups think that all of these extra special interest channels are going to fit? They probably think that the combined company will have twice the bandwith... but if XM and Sirius are intent on keeping their "no new radios" promise, then everything's gotta be simulcast, and there's no room for channels beyond what's already there... at least not until music channels are sacrificed.
Does this mean than Mel and Gary have been WIPP-ed?
Yeah. No one is getting paid off here.
This fight between XM-Sirius and the NAB is no different than watching lobby groups in DC courting congressmen.
No matter what side you support you have to throw up just a little in your mouth when you read quotes like these.
Twenty more women from another "off base" organization throw their support in favor of the merger.. Great!! when do the mice speak?? How about the the cows?? Please tell me there's a big group that will toss their support in favor of the merger.. How about the people who fix pot holes?? That's it.. I'll support it then...
