A non-profit agricultural association, Women Involved in Farm Economics (which creates the fascinating acronym: WIFE), today announced their support the Sirius-XM merger.
WIFE issued their comments to the FCC late last month.
"The farms and rural communities we represent have been well-served by satellite radio," said WIFE President Pam Potthoff, in their letter to the FCC. "Approval of the merger between SIRIUS and XM will ensure that our communities continue to receive important informational service via satellite radio, and also will provide our constituents with more programming choices at improved prices.
WIFE joins the League of Rural Voters as another "rural" organization in support of the Sirius-XM merger. The fair representation of rural voters was a key aspect when the FCC considered the DirecTV-EchoStar merger.
What's next? "Blacks Who Haven't Shot Anyone supports XM-Sirius merger."
The who/what? Talk about an insignificant, irrelevant special interest group. This takes the cake. Xirius is really reaching here.
I can't wait for the League of Lawmen, the Wisconsin Trade Federations, and the Rural Orthodox First Lutherans to show their support.
Maybe Xirius paid for this endorsement by giving WIFE a pile of merger bullshit for fertilizer.

It would be nice if the auto manufacturers as a whole came out one way or another.
Why is it that the disadvantaged types support the merger? They're pratically the same types that think Pepsi and Coke should merge.
Those groups need to know that the reality of the proposed merger isn't what they think its going to be.
Especially if Mel is in charge, and he is already bad news given his track record with the media conglomerates. A lot of people, obscure disadvataged group or not, fail to realize that.

I found this very interesting, considering this group is pushing for federal cable competition legislation, and urging its members to write their senators to tell them that they want competition in the cable industry, and that they "firmly believe that the faster competition enters the cable television industry, the better off consumers will be. (They) see federal cable competition legislation as the first step toward getting better prices and better service for all cable consumers and expanded service into currently underserved areas like rural America." Huh? Isn't this being a tad bit hypocritical? Wont the merging of the XM-Sirius companies be eliminating their competition and setting the consumer up for higher prices and less programming choices after the proposed sub. price freeze ends?
Guess it's true what many are saying, all the little-known specialty groups are jumping on the band wagon to get a little attention while they can.
