XM Canada Increases Subscribers by 23% in First Quarter

| 14 Comments | No TrackBacks

XM CanadaXM Canada has announced that they've reached 147,000 subscribers in their first quarter ending Nov 30th - an increase of 23% over the previous quarter.

The addition of 27,000 new subscribers, up from 120,000 total subscribers (which include automotive factory installs, aftermarket and partnerships) keep XM Canada on track to reach one million subscribers by 2010. These results can't be compared year-over-year since XM Canada was only in operation for 8 days in their first quarter of business last year.

Another interesting figure is that XM Canada holds an 80% share of all factory-installed satellite radios in current 2007 vehicles. XM Canada will be available in 115 different models in 2007. A testiment to their OEM-centric model.

27,000... thats a low number.

Sirius is still #1 in Canada! by the end of 07 Sirius will be #1 in the good ol USA!

XM will beg to be bought out by Sirius.

Philmore, you like Sirius, we get it. But Sirius over taking XM by end of 07? You are out of your mind with fanboyitus.

Philmore doesn't get it ... this industry is still new and questionable -- wishing that one company would drop out will bring the other down as well.

Wait until the canucks find out that XM will be the only service with the NHL next year!

"Sirius is still #1 in Canada! by the end of 07 Sirius will be #1 in the good ol USA!

XM will beg to be bought out by Sirius."

I am absolutely speechless.

This may be politically incorrect, but I think we should bring back slavery. But not race-slavery based on ignorance, like our forefathers did (after all, who wants a bunch of criminals that don't wake up until noon as slaves?)

I propose that instead we allow the stupid people (those with IQs less than 100) to be bought and sold as property. You see, stupid people are in ample supply in this country, and if we could turn those into a resource, we could boost productivity. So I say let companies like McDonald's & wealthy people like myself buy slaves instead of having to pay people on an hourly basis to do our bidding.

You see, under my system, people like Philmore, would actually have some sort of value, as opposed to the way things our under our current system. What do you guys think?

Westfall

"What do you guys think?

Westfall"

I think I would have preferred if you remained speechless.

And to Philmore, who said:
"Sirius is still #1 in Canada! by the end of 07 Sirius will be #1 in the good ol USA!"

That's a bold prediction. Why don't you wait to see exactly how much Sirius disappoints at the end of 06 before you decide what they will do in 07?

XM is getting their arses handed to them in Canada, you won't read that in their press release...they also don't release the self-paying numbers anymore now that they're above 20%

lord shortfall, do you ever actually comment on the subject or just insult people like a short, red-headed little bully from the 7th grade? how old are you? your statements, especially of late, have been the most in-coherent posts i've ever read. what made you so wealthy? any stock advice? what mutual funds should i look into for a long term investment? Do you buy stock from companies that are at 20 cents a share and sell them when they hit 80 cents a share?

i guess this isn't bad news for xm. they haven't added new content and still had a steady increase. i wonder how their retail sales are doing. to me that measures public interest.

To think you're all fanboys is an understatement. You all are idiots. I'm going to go back to FM.

Note that I was being sarcastic last comment. (Taking neither sides was that other troll's idea) Sirius Canada does have 200k subs while XM has 170k, but the fact that both Sirius and XM are having good years in Canada is supposed to support the fact that this isn't Sirius vs. XM... this is supposed to be satellite radio vs. FM!

Both Canadian companies have grown significantly due to the traction and momentum that was already moving in the U.S. However SIRIUS is by far the runaway leader in Canada.
John is correct, XM has announced 147K customers, don't know where realwx gets 170k from? but not a word on the number of self paying subs.
I imagine that the only reason they released this is because SIRIUS announced 200K self paying a few weeks ago.

A lot of Sirius' success in Canada is the offering of NHL. I see arenas that have Sirius on the ice surface (most notably Calgary and Edmonton) and I'm sure others do as well.

westfall,
i love your vision! can we get this started now or do we have to wait until sirius goes bankrupt in 08?
