XM Satellite Radio has launched a new multimedia advertising campaign promoting its real-time traffic information service, XM NavTraffic. The campaign targets traffic-conscious consumers while they're tuned into local TV or online traffic reports, with the tagline "Get There Faster."
Three 10- second television spots using XM's signature line art animation portray drivers in their cars listening to XM's commercial-free music channels, and using their XM NavTraffic service to find an alternate, quicker route to their destination.
The spots, developed by DC-based creative shop Brand-Aid alongside XM's in-house creative services, are debuting todat, May 19th in more than 30 major markets, adjacent to local TV traffic reports in morning and evening local news.
Additionally, the campaign will also include online advertising and billboard placements in high-traffic locations. XM's OEM partners Nissan, Infiniti and Lexus have highlighted NavTraffic in recent TV advertising promoting specific vehicles. XM NavTraffic availability is rapidly expanding into more than 40 vehicles in the 2009 vehicle model year.
You can watch all the TV spots here.

I wanted to get NavTraffic in a 2009 Honda Pilot, but they dont offer it in anything Honda. =(
The Pilot has its own navigation system, and unfortunately that navagation system comes with most of the cool features I am looking for in the Pilot. At least I will still get XM....
I have Navtraffic and while it is a nice gimmick, I can't say it really helps very much. In general, real-time problems are so behind as to render the information useless while long-term tie-ups (construction) are not that critical since you have a pretty good idea where this kind of stuff is happening.
I would think the data acquisition could be easily improved with some commonsense measures. OTOH, I've been surprised at times to see traffic info presented in areas where I wouldn't have expected it -- i.e., areas that are outside metro areas that are supposed to be covered by the service.
It needs work, though.
I'm sure XM gets it's traffic info punched in from a provider like Metro Networks or Shadow or something like that. They're the same people that provide traffic info to terrestrial. Problem is, the way the system works, it really doesn't matter if it's via XM or your local traffic reporter, the info is old by the time it gets to you.
Nice idea though.
So, with all this NavTraffic stuff which has been out for a while, why is ARPU going down?
hoo hoo, i invented NavTraffic Robin, hoo hoo, they should call it HowieTraffic

Maybe it should say high hurdles again, rather than congestion ahead.
I live in Jersey.. I got for my wife a tom tom. I know my way around... but its sooooo nice to have that box telling me to turn .. or when I make a wrong turn how to get back on track.
Navigation packages are here to stay and are a popular new car feature. the fact that XM is so far along with this is great. I never thought I would want one... but ever sice that damn tom tom. I would like to have it in my next car. Add on weather and traffic updates and you got a winner!
And for my wife.. it pays for itself in gas. .... many times over.
So if it works this well why doesn't XM use it to find their way to profitability?
MUM Is definitely the word when it comes to these stocks. Wow...
Hey....does the "NAVTRAFFIC" have a feature that shows WHERE the FCC is on the roadmap to COMING TO A FUCKING DECISION???
Just curious. :-)
Your comment about the road to profitability is priceless - Great work!!!
I bet these stations get better ratings than Oral and Anus! HOWARD RULZ! 0.0!!!

"I bet these stations get better ratings than Oral and Anus! HOWARD RULZ! 0.0!!! "
hey thats cool what you did adding the "Z" at the end of "RULZ". it makes anything look so much more badass than it normally would be..
also, i am sure that being tuned in to the NavTraffic is a lot more entertaining than listening to Howie.
Eureka I've GOT IT!
Maybe Bush can use this to find those pesky WMD's?

Maybe I could have used this to find my girlfriends panties in the backseat of my 64 Chevy
years ago?
