Orbitcast has received word that Sirius XM Radio Inc. is doing a massive market expansion for its live traffic service, XM NavTraffic.
According to a person familiar with the initiative, XM NavTraffic is expanding to 109 markets - up from 80 total metropolitan markets - most of which will have detailed flow data.
The expansion is expected to go into effect as early as today.

This is good news.
The one thing I like about satellite radio is its
integrated NavTraffic. It works rather well in
my vehicle, alerting me of upcoming traffic and
giving me alternate routes.
I had not lived in an area covered by this, so forgive my ignorance, but is it only delivered via a navigation system, or can you also hear audio travel reports for these cities?
NJRonbo obviously works for the marketing dept at XM. Based on the lack of information, I thought this was not turned on for my free trial, but much to my chagrin I found that it is activated. To date this service has never warned me of an accident or construction. It has never found me an alternate route based on traffic. It covers basically the interstate and 2 other roads, that's it. This is a 2010 Infiniti too. The navigator in my Sprint phone warns of SO much more, covers so many more roads, and that's not really saying a ton.
Very disappointed. Seriously Needs Improvement to be really useful. Offhand I would say this is not work $4 a month.
