XM today announced that they've signed on the Grand Ole Opry. XM will feature the live Friday and Saturday night performances as well as the Tuesday Night Opry, all starting off with Opry's 82nd Birthday Bash on Saturday, October 20th.
The Grand Ole Opry features will be spread out across several channels. First, country hits channel Nashville (ch 11) will feature live Tuesday (8pm ET), Friday (9pm ET), and Saturday night (7:30pm and 10:30pm ET) performances.
Encore broadcasts of new Opry episodes will air on XM's classic country music channel America (ch 10) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10am ET, along with archival Opry broadcasts.
Many individual performances recorded live on the Opry stage will also be featured on XM's other country music channels, including Willie's Place (ch 13), Bluegrass Junction (ch 14), Highway 16 (ch 16), and U.S. Country (ch 17).
XM will also add "The Eddie Stubbs Show" to their lineup. The popular WSM program is hosted by Eddie Stubbs, a regular announcer for the Grand Ole Opry, award-winning country music DJ, and respected country music historian. "The Eddie Stubbs Show" will premiere later this fall on America (ch 10).
The Grand Ole Opry debuted on the radio airwaves in 1925 on Nashville's 650 AM WSM and can still be heard on its flagship station. Sirius dropped WSM/Grand Ole Opry from its lineup just over a year ago.

Very cool...I've been hoping XM would make this move ever since Sirius Dropped WSM/Grand Ole Opry. I'm surprised Nashville (XM 11) is airing the programming...Ever since CC added commercials to its stations, it seems XM has kept their exclusive programs off Nashville, Mix, Kiss, and Sunny. Does this also signal the beginning of the end of CC's involvement with XM/commercials on music channels?
SIRIUS did indeed drop the Opry/WSM channel last year but only because Gaylord wanted too much money to renew.
Odd thing is, if the merger goes through with XM, it'll again be available to SIRIUS subscribers.
>>>> Odd thing is, if the merger goes through with XM, it'll again be available to SIRIUS subscribers.
Nonsense. The deal is with XM, not with Sirius.
Where do people keep getting the idea that the merger means XM's content will automatically just appear on Sirius (or vice-versa)? Unless the deal is renegotiated, or they have put in specific language to cover it in the event of the merger (which is a possibility for deals after the merger announcement). But there is no reason, whatsoever, to make this assumption.
The merger does not automatically mean Sirius gets ANY of XM's content. You will NOT be hearing all the NFL games on XM anytime soon.
Geez.
Frank, Stackpointer's response may have seemed a little harsh, but it had to be. Stackpointer is actually from an apocalyptic future where the confusion over exactly where the Grand Ole Opry channel is led to a war which decimated our world. He was sent back to make sure that every man, woman and child knows that the Grand Ole Opry channel is on XM, not Sirius, and thus spare us Armageddon.
XM will be owned by Sirius If this merger passes Stackpointer is just pissed because XM lost the battle between the 2
wonder if this means the end of the nighttime request show on xm 10 with country dan?
JohnnyFever78 Said: wonder if this means the end of the nighttime request show on xm 10 with country dan?
I certainly hope not. Maybe they'll just shuffle the schedule a bit, or shorten Country Dan's show, but I can't see them getting rid of it all together.
