XM SureConnect Details and Info
XM Satellite Radio has released information to retailers about their next-generation FM modulator, which has been given the marketing name of XM SureConnect. To the right is a photo of the connector clip showing the actual size next to a penny.
One of the benefits of XM SureConnect is improved sound-quality. Since the XM SureConnect clip is directly attached to the antenna, there's less chance for interference. So while the difficulty of installation is increased, at least it's at the benefit of sound-quality.
There is a downside though, SureConnect isn't compatable with a retractable "whip" antenna (~2% of cars), or with roof-based antennas (~<1% of cars). In those cases, a hardwired install is necessary.
XM Fan has the full retailer info sheet for your viewing pleasure.

Comments
someone needs to tip off XM that Sirius will be using a similar application going forward in addition to keeping the wireless FM transmitter.
that sheet is typical XM nonsense. they cant seem to market themselves without mentioning sirius.
rule number 1 XM...
never acknowledge the competition.
a. its very unproffesional
b. when you're wrong you look like idiots. in this case your facts are wrong.
c. it shows how desperate and weak you really are.

Is there any chance people might confuse "SureConnect" with Microsoft's failed DRM scheme "Playsforsure" (which MS themselves have abandoned)? I just don't think it's a good idea to create any perceived connection between yourself and worthless technology.
Probably doesn't matter all that much, anyway...

Boo Hoo Hoo Philmore
Youve tested this new technology? I assume so since you say XM is wrong in their statements.

XMScott, next time do some research! Ryan posted a link to Sirius and XM's new FM mods...
"Understanding the Next Generation of Satellite Radio FM Transmitters "
its about 5 posts down from this one.
you can read right? hooked on phonics worked for you? did the virus eat all your brain cells?

Philmore:
If Sirius is going to use this technology, why not roll it out now?
The radios that are on the open market right now are such crap, that word of mouth is going to spread rampant. "Word on the Street" already is that Sirius radios are crap in your car with their current FM mod. At least with the XM soultion it will take an extra 15 minutes to install yourself. And then problem solved.
Now you see 100s of posts on a Sirius messageboard about how shitty the FM mods on the Sirius units are.
Even is Sirius is coming out with this eventually, XM is first again and XM has nipped any future trouble they might have regarding this particular issue with the NAB, in the butt.

"rule number 1 XM...
never acknowledge the competition."
This is for retailers, not consumers. The info sheet to help some schmuck at Best Buy sell XM, and convince them to push this and not Sirius. Then when a customer walks in and says "Hey, what about the problems with the FCC, why should I buy XM and not Sirus?" the salesperson is supposed to recite what they read on the info sheet.

Wrong cfg! you can focus on your advantages without talking about what competitors are doing.
If XM only focused on what they beleive makes them good instead of focusing on what Sirius is doing, they might actually sell a radio or 2.
XM's new marketing stinks, their service stinks, so they have to resort to bashing the competitor. again, its unprofessional and it shows your weakness.

If I am going to spend the time with these antenna mods I might as well do a hard wire install.

I actually got the sure connect and it sounds terrific. And if you were to get in hardwired that could cost lots of money. With Sureconnect vs. the standard mod, the main difference is the audio into your speakers comes out louder and with less interfearence

I am looking to use this in my car as well as my boat. The sure connect sounds like a good idea for the car but my boat has a concealed antenna. With the old style I could use an fm modulator and move the unit from car to boat with no problem as long as I had 2 xm antenna's. Any thoughts as how to go about solving this dilemna? I hear the new fm modulators are weak and alllow a lot of static. Thanks....Jeff
