XM the #7 most searched "gadget" on AOL

XMAOL this morning unveiled their top search terms for 2007, and XM came in as the #7 most searched "gadget" - behind iPhone, iPod but ahead of GPS and Xbox.

The top searches are determined based on the people, places and topics that received the largest volume of search queries on AOL Search.

AOL Search is "enhanced" by Google. And while The Big G has yet to release its own year-end Zeitgeist list, they did release their top 10 fastest growing terms, which the iPhone dominated. Yahoo too recently released its list of top searches for 2007, and neither XM or Sirius are anywhere to be seen.

Still, being in the top ten of gadget searches on AOL is a damn good achievement. This is perhaps a testament to XM's exposure to the AOL crowd, what with AOL Radio showing off the XM logo wherever you look (not to mention AIM). Whatever the reason, it's working.

Here's the list of other top gadget searches that XM ranked among:

  1. iPhone
  2. iPod
  3. Wii
  4. Computers
  5. Cell Phones
  6. Tracfone
  7. XM Radio
  8. GPS
  9. PSP
  10. Xbox

Congrats to the folks at XM!

sirius just beat out "how do i get rid of herpes?" and "ishtar midnight screenings"

Sorry folks, grandpa got on the computer again to make Ishtar jokes, which I guess were funny back in his day. Even he stopped using AOL, though.

Yeah, that Wii is practically ancient.

Funny, a guy named "Abe" is making fun of outdated references.

This is good news, but what about Google? Everyone knows that's the only search engine that matters anymore.

Hold the phone, people still use AOL? I bet the real #1 search is 'why am I still alive?'

They might be searching for XM gadgets, but it's apparent that they're not buying them. AOL has about 14% of the search engine market share so it's a big deal that XM is #7. I just wonder why that interest isn't translating into retail marketshare.

what was howard talking about when ishtar was playing? lesbians? wow, he's really changed with the times.

and howard was already old when ishtar came out.

Ishtar references and AOL are still both very relevant, you're right, my mistake. Also, Camaros are bitchin'.

also, ABE, using an ishtar reference is to show how far sirius is down the list. sorry that was over your head.

were you able to score hannah montana tickets?

Actually, Abe. Camaro's are "bitchin"

Get with the Times, grandpa Simpson....

Man, I want one of those new Camaro's....

Yes, your right, it would be interesting to see where XM is on googles' Search engine list.
I also wonder how much atention the Myspace adds are getting. Oh yea,, and Ebay... all direct links to buy direct from XM.

Yea, XM lost 17,000 retail customers. thats a net loss, what was the gross gain? also remember XM is still a full year ahead of sirius. Caint wait to see what sort of Retail Numbers Sirius does this year.

Camaros are only bitchin if your tag is Camario. Linger Longer!

"This is good news, but what about Google? Everyone knows that's the only search engine that matters anymore."

Why don't you read the entire article? Ryan says that Google didn't released theirs yet.

AOL?? Are they still in business?? If XM was their number 7 search, its only because XM used to be ON AOL... AOL is SOoooo 90's, early ninety's. I really don't think this story is ANYTHING to brag about.

I dont even bother with the standalone programs, I just use the XM gadget for the Vista Sidebar at http://www.buildagadget.com. Works perfectly, no hassle.
