General Motors has said that they plan to build more than 1.8 million vehicles with XM Satellite Radio factory-installed in 2007. In August, GM said that they will reduce the price of the XM option from $325 to $199. GM currently has over 50 models featuring XM, and has sold over 4 million XM-equipped vehicles.

Last week Honda announced that they will build 650,000 XM factory-equipped vehicles in 2007. I would expect that these sort of announcements from automanufacturers will be more frequent in the weeks to come.

How many factory installs was GM supposed to have for 2006?

wasn't GM installing 1.55 million in 06? 250,000 additional leaves about 100,000 after churn.
then Hyundai should add about 200,000 for 2007. Xm will claw its way back

dont forget hondas announced 650k for 2007

We XM investors knew retail would fade & the OEM channel would become the main subscriber channel.

Looks like our paitence is finally being rewarded. How about that.

GM can install all they want but this guy will not be buying a GM car with XM in it. Sure it might be on the window sticker but my salesman will NOT be charging me $199 for something that I will not use.

I had a salesman tell me that if I didn't want XM than I didn't have to subscribe to it but I told him I am not paying an additional $199, so take it off.

Thats 1.8 million more xm tuners for aftermarket installers to remove when the 2007 GM vehicles are upgraded to Sirius. There is no pro-consumer reason why automakers only install one or the other, yet its the consumers problem to get rid of the built in xm to move on up to Sirius.
