XM to have new handheld radio in stores before Xmas

New handheld XM Radio
Today at the Merrill Lynch Media Conference, Mel Karmazin let it slip that a new handheld portable XM Satellite Radio would be available in stores ahead of the Holiday Season.

The Sirius XM Radio Inc. CEO provided little additional details on the device, but chances are that little has changed since info was leaked on it a few months back.

More details will be posted as they come in...

What else is new? It is the corp. way, 'get it out in time to get the most money.'

methinks this might be one of the "October 6th Best-Of Compatible" radios that were brought up a few posts ago.

OR at least mehopes...the screen on my Inno is cracked, and i refuse to upgrade until the next-gen rolls around.

Do you think it will use the mini-tuner? tee hee hee

If O&A are not on it I look forward to destroying as many of these units

If Opie and Anthony are not on it (resign them Mel), I look forward to destroying as many of these units in as inhumane a way as possible.

I'd love to see dual tuner XM and Sirius channels on this one! Me thinks not :(

GREAT...JUST IN TIME FOR BANKRUPTCY....THIS STOCK HAS DESTROYED MY LIFE...ORBITCAST IS A JOKE....U JUST PRINT THE BULLSHIT

Who would have figured that someone who types in all caps could lose money in the stock market?

Somehow I don't think someone who has lost all of his money in the stock market is qualified to make a forecast regarding bankruptcy for a multi-billion dollar corporation. When Sirius pays down some of this debt next year (and they will), the stock will come up. I am in at $1.47 and have decided to stay with it. I really believe I will be glad I did in two to three years.

My god maybe you shouldnt have put so much into it.

What's great about the Inno, the current one, is it satisfies my criteria for a truly "ready for market" dap:
1. It's "preloaded" out of the box.
2. You NEVER have to hook it up to a PC. (Getting music onto dap's is generally a huge pain.)
3. It doesn't rely on software that's hard to learn. It doesn't rely on ANY software, for that matter.
4. The memory is expandable, on the upcoming Inno, so I hear.

Other big plusses: The current Inno is not a fingerpring magnet, instead, it has a nice, matte finish that's actually quite attractive, in a "business suit" way. The price of the current Inno is surprising affordable and the box includes everything. I expect the price of the new Inno to be equally attractive.

The current Inno can record the currently playing song - not just the last few seconds if that's all you hear, but the whole thing. Hows that for magic? It also has a sophisticated timer recording feature. Plus it uses terrestrial repeaters, which is better than satellites alone, like with Sirius. Reception is, in fact, better.

Plus, the playlist on the Inno is (practically) infinite.

The Inno makes all those iPod devices obsolete for these reasons.
