George Strait

XM is continuing the artist-only channel tradition with the launch of a dedicated George Strait channel on April 1st.

"Strait Country" will debut on XM channel 17, temporarily replacing US Country, and coincides with the release of his 37th album "Troubadour." The channel will run through May 31st.

The channel will feature songs from Strait's catalog, exclusive interviews with his friends and colleagues, and will showcase Strait's newest album by highlighting tracks off the new release every hour.

This isn't the first time that George Strait has enjoyed his own dedicated channel on satellite radio: Sirius Prime Country went "Strait Up" in 2006.

And the Sirius-tizing of XM's music channels continues .

Not another one!!!

All that is needed know is the merger to happen and then the card crusher dude can come in and crush my XM for me feel disappointed like I did in my dream last nigtht.

I love George Strait as much as any country fan...And I don't have a problem with him getting a dedicated channel...But, couldn't they have made it XM 18? Led Zeppelin got a channel without interrupting any other channels...Michael Jackson gets a channel without taking one of the other channels off the air temporarily. Why should country fans have to suffer? And, can we expect XM 10 to add a bit more of the US Country playlist to their rotation for the two months? Or, are we stuck with XM 11 and their commercial breaks? Put it on XM 18, or maybe utilize XM Live, 120 if you're going to have a dedicated channel like this.

Yes, Sirius-tizing is indeed what's happening.

I don't understand all this antipathy toward artist-dedicated channels. When I had Sirius, I loved the Who Channel. As a current XM subscriber, I would love to access the Springsteen and Dead channels--two original entities that drew on authentic rock and roll influences and then influenced others. Instead, I'm offered mediocre rip-off artists I'll never listen to: Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, and now George Strait. Whoopee!

Funny. The Who. Grateful Dead and Bruce Springsteen only "drew on" rock and roll "influences" but Led Zeppelin, Michael Jackson, and George Strait are "rip-off artists" because they're on XM.

You Siriots are a bunch of sheep.

Bottom line, all these fucking artist-only channels suck balls.

I have no problem with artist channels--I have a big problem with the way XM sounds--I really am amazed at the fact that it is the worst sounding audio product on the market. It is listenable, but that's a pretty low bar for a subscription based service.

QQ more XM fans. The dead channel has been a great addition to Sirius. They have so many live concerts they play, and they sound great. If you like the music, then you are gonna like the channel. If not, that's why there is about 70 other channels you can listen to. Geesus christ it's called options, use them.

Allright, since everyone complains about the sound quality of XM, why do you continue to pay $12.95 a month for it? If it's so inferior to Sirius or another service, logic suggests that you would flush your XM down the ttoilet, buy a Sirius and well, you know the rest. So how would you improve it? Imagine that you've been given the task of being an engineer in charge of sound quality and how to improve it. What would you do to make it better than it is now? I want to see how dedicated you are to this idea that it's the worst sounding product on the market. and again why anyone would *continually* pay for what they perceive to be something really awful is quite dumb, but then again there are people who hate radio shows so much that they actually sit around and listen and even call in to say how much they hate the hosts, like the host actually gives a fuck if they lose a listener or if they cancel the service. Let's hear some solutions to this aparent problem.

Just as I suspected...It's been almost 12 hours since my last post and none of you have spoken up, guess that means you're really dumb enough to pay for something you don't like and that you exist only to bitch about it. If it was on Sirius or if Howard was somehow involved it would be the greatest thing ever invented and it would sound absolutely beautiful. Don't get all mad now. I'm only being real.

I hate all the one artest only channels. I don't give a d**n if they're on XM or Sirius... They all sound terible!

I *can't* believe you took away my US Country!!!! For two months??? Who will play my old-school country in the meantime?? I don't even listen to my favorite artists 24/7, why should George be any different?

I pay for variety, not monotony.

And they debuted it on April Fools...I even thought it was a joke at first.

BTW, my XM sounds great in all three of our cars. We also got the portable boom box and took our XM down to Mexico last year. We got reception everywhere. I listen to all music, not just country.

But, I was raised in Texas.

Like they say, you can take the girl out of Texas, but...

WOW !!! You scared me to death. The other day I turned on Ch 17 and when George Straight songs were playing back to back I thought it was a tribute to you because you had died. I'm glad that isn't the case. I wish Strait Country wasn't a temporary thing. This morning I heard the song "Lead On" and it frazzled me cause two years ago someone walked out on me and my heart still hasn't mended. In fact, it's still very broken. But that's what country songs are. Keep on smiling that smile that warms every females' heart. You are a TRUE country artist in addition to be drop-dead (oops) gorgeous. Oh, and if I haven't said it already, I LOVE STRAIT COUNTRY !!!!

I am responding to "What Would Youj Do". I have an old car so I don't realize that the sound is bad. I'm not too concerned about the sound quality BUT I am upset with the fact that certain channels have advertisements that I am paying to listen to. I subscribed to XM because I didn't want to hear advertisements. When I initially subscribed I listed to only channels 6,7 and 8. Then I started experimenting with country channels and channels 24, 25 and 26 and when I heard advertisements, it infuriated me. I have complained about this many times to XM and all they say is "I'll pass the word". I am thinking seriously of cancelling my subscription to XM, and I would if I had a CD player in my car, but I'm not sure if Sirius is any better, meaning, are they also going to charge me to listen to advertisements.

You must listen to channels that are owned by CC (Clear channel). XM recently introduced a few channels that are CC, and they DO play commercials.

There is a list of over 80 channels (give or take) that still do not play commercials. Still worth it in my book.
