XM will be launching a dedicated channel to Metallica starting next week on channel 51.Starting August 16th, Mandatory Metallica (ch 51), will air music from the entire Metallica catalog, including rare live recordings from the band's personal archives, extensive interviews with the band and more.
James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo will host the six-week long channel.
The channel will also air interviews with other artists who will share their thoughts about Metallica's musical contributions, including Linkin Park, Slipknot, Disturbed, Guns 'n Roses, Chris Cornell, Ashes Divide, Blackstone Cherry, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, Skid Row, Cinderella, Mastodon, Judas Priest, Dragonforce, Triumph, Tesla and many others.
Since their formation in the early 1980s, Metallica has released nine studio albums, and sold over 100 million albums worldwide. The band's 10th studio album, Death Magnetic, will be released worldwide on Friday, September 12th.

there was an article on Yahoo about the 20 top albums of all time compiled from sales, staying power and a few more metrics.
So far XM has had 25% of these bands and given them a dedicated channel while Sirius has not hit one of them yet.

Don't hold your breath. ESPECIALLY now that they are one company, this is a practice that Sirius has loved in the past (and still does).
That's definitely one of those things I would have had the DOJ or FCC regulate. FM can't do this because it is basically "Payola". Every artist who gets a single artist channel is paying XM for the right, to promote a new record, concert tour, box set, etc.

Get a life, guys. If you're losing your shirt because of one stock, you have no idea what you're doing, and you never should have bought that stock in the first place. For that matter, you shouldn't have bought ANY stock, because you don't have a clue about how the stock market works or what a diversified investment portfolio is.
Stocks don't mean a thing in the real world. It won't affect Sirius XM's operations ONE BIT if stocks to go down to 1 penny a share tomorrow. They've already got their money, and as long as people continue to invest, they have no reason to be profitable. In fact, Mel has been buying back stock lately, so it's distinctly possible that he's been engineering this all along so that he can buy the stock back and own the lion's share of this new company. Then, when they stop throwing money away on things like shock jocks, he'll be able to line his pockets with practically free money.
No doubt, the company WILL turn a profit soon, if only because the source of investment capital are drying up. It'll be interesting to see where they are this time next year, once they have to make good on their promises.

I don't mind the 1-artist channel as long as they keep them on this one channel. The Metallica month starts the day after the Coldplay month is ending, on the same channel. Although it was still annoying constantly hearing about the Coldplay channel when listening to Ethel.
I hope they bring back the Abba channel .

Part of me was expecting a Metallica channel on one of the services starting soon, but a tidbit from the merger kind of tempered things.
Metallica is managed by Q Prime.
Q Prime was the main financial backer of the company that finished third in the original round of bidding for satellite radio licenses (Primosphere).
Primosphere filed a motion during the merger process to get the FCC to force Sirius XM to sell half of the spectrum to them. The motion was summarily denied.
I was partially expecting some sour grapes over that.
If any service was going to get this, it would be XM. Cliff Burnstein of Q Prime is a good friend of the departed Lee Abrams (to the point that Abrams quoted a Burnstein email saying that Steve Kingston was ruining Ethel).

That is so true, both XM and Sirius have terrible sound quality. Everyone put in a CD now and then, everyone switch over to FM now and then, the sound quality difference is staggering. I agree with you on Coldplay, but don't agree on satradio sound quality, it's subscription based, it's should be better than the low-fi it is.
Got to tell you, I keep running the numbers and it looks to me that SIXM is black Q4 2009. Even before synergies, if Mel gained the same independent operating efficiencies out of XMSR as he did SIRI losses for 2009 would be 640 Million combined. Add 3.0 million in new accounts (subs) which contribute 70%, and your near 390 million loss... add 20% synergies to their 3.4 billion spend and your in the black by 200 million +/- before new satellite which can be leased back once operational.

Till the interoperatable radio's are out new subscribers will be few and far between, also if you listen to Melvin Alan "Mel" Karmazin automotive OEM will not have interoperatable radio's for 3 years. Sirius/xm really won't be making a dime till the full synergy's kick in, when one satellite system is dropped so that one is being maintained and used, and even then if they have to replace a satellite there goes another year of not making a dime. To say nothing about paying back all that debt. Keep believing those "numbers your running" they will steer you right down the path of more years of failure.
