XM Satellite Radio has (finally) released the full details and line-up of its highly anticipated presidential election channel, POTUS '08.
The channel, which will be free for everyone with an XM radio (no subscription required), will launch on September 24th along with XM's other channel changes.
As we learned last week, the National Journal will be joining POTUS '08, but in addition the channel will air radio shows from content partners like C-SPAN, Slate, and Washington Monthly and the polling group Zogby International.
Liberal voices will come in from the political blog DailyKos; conservative voices from the Heritage Foundation. Other contributors include the National Press Club, George Washington University, and TV networks CNN, ABC, and FOX News.
XM-produced shows will also be prominently featured on POTUS '08, gathering together opinions from all sides of the presidential elections. As Kevin Straley, XM's senior VP of news, talk, and sports programming, puts it: "You can hear diverse views across the political spectrum, including voices you don't typically hear on traditional media."
Yesterday, some sniffing around uncovered a few trademarks that XM filed for, which undoubtedly were for POTUS '08 show titles. Today we get to learn a bit more of what those XM-produced shows shows will feature:
- "1600" comes in from the XM studios in Washington D.C. weekdays from 3pm to 6pm ET. Hosted by POTUS '08 managing editor Rebecca Roberts (who comes from NPR News).
- "Morning Briefing" with XM senior director of news programming Scott Walterman
- "P.O.T.U.S. Press Pool" with XM senior director of talk programming Tim Farley
- "P.O.T.U.S. '08 Live" hosted by the channel's program director Joe Mathieu, who comes to XM from Marketwatch Radio.
Sunday programming on P.O.T.U.S. '08 will offer audio broadcasts of the FOX News shows "FOX News Sunday" and "Beltway Boys," ABC News' "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," CNN's "Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer," and the Chicago-based radio program "Beyond the Beltway."
More schedule info is available on xmradio.com/potus.

This is a great channel to have for free, Great job XM!
Looks like more of the typical MSM drivel to me. When the hell are they going to provide some actual investigative journalism like "Democracy Now!" to XM listeners?
Todd
Rebecca Roberts is a cutie!
Based on Americans' apathy toward politics and voting, I doubt Potus will convince XM nation will to turn off Butt Rawk Tracks or the E! Channel as they search the Internet for nipple slips.
Hopefully, these guys will break actual news stories and not just offer an opinion on something they read in the newspaper or heard on NPR.
Re: Rebecca Roberts:
I'd hit it... she could probably get a TV gig without too much trouble...
Also:
At least 1600 spans the 1600 eastern hour...
Seriously, a face "made for radio" she is NOT. Politics + Cute Girl + Radio? The math doesn't even work right...
As for the channel I hope it turns out to be everything is can be, because we need it.......
and Todd, stop plugging your "Democracy Now" crap. We get it! You're a political insider! UUUGGH
...and a tree falls in the forest with no one around....
I have already listened to this channel and it is another version of the same tired liberal propaganda being spear headed by the same groups backing all of the liberal media groups.
It is not unbiased come on she's from NPR and the rest won't even say where they came from. Surprise, surprise.
UUUGGH is right :( hope it fails too.

Liberal Propaganda? redstate.com? The Heritage Foundation!? Pajamas Media? Fox News? All regular contributors and all fall somewhere decidedly right of center. Of course you also get healthy doses of the Washington Post, CNN and other lefty heavyweights.
All news is biased. I think XM has managed to get a collection of contributors that shows multiple pieces of the political spectrum in a forum where no one is being attacked for their political leanings, or expected to say something crazy for ratings. It's almost like when you eliminate the blowhards like O'Reilly and Oberman in an environment that doesn't pander to the lowest common denominator, an actual discussion breaks out. Weird.
10 weeks in and I love it.
When is XM going to offer Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman. Let's get some real investigative journalism on XM. Amy Goodman does such a wonderful job each day to present factual journalism.

Attn Joe Mathieu, We enjoy your program -- usually (ha)! -- And you have a GREAT voice and delivery - one that catches a person's ear. HOWever (a-hum, ha)! -- You DID sound quite 'anti-Hillary' - today - (and we ARE seriously - TRYING to stay above the fray - and would vote for either - in the end)! BUT - when you say 'agreeing' statements - about Obama's name NOT being on the MI ballot like" "Well of course, ..kinda hard to vote for someone who was not on the ballot!" Well, Mr. Mathieu, - WHY WAS'NT Obama's (and other's name on the ballot? Because THEY CHOSE not to put their names on the ballot - with trying to be (heros ?) - in the squable about the State's push to up thier dates for Primaries - with the DNC! -- THEY shud've STAYED OUT of that fight. It was NOT their business! -- (I noticed, that Kucinach ALSO kept his name on the ballot! - but WHO speaks about that?! We'd heard too, that it was TOO late - for HIllary to take her name OFF the ballot - when they were all supposedly, pushing - to have their names off). ANYway -- your comment, DID sound a bit one sidedly, sympathizing of the Obama side. He really did not need anyone's sympathy or pity -- for something HE (and other candidatess) had choswen to do - all by themselves!) --
ALso, - you made a comment - when 'speaking of whom' - you would be talking about - on the program on one subject -- that "Obama" -- "WHo obviously will be - the Democratic Candidate". OF course, that was very presumptuous. Watch out -- for hard statements like that, dear. Looks like there are some VERY very strong odds for her side 'taking the bid' -- TOO! (ha)!
We wish, also - that clearification - would come out - about the 'so-called' campaigning - in FL. WE were there - (staying with two different relatives - of ours - in Orlando - and, the Tampa areas - for over TWO months - during which - the FL Vote was held!! AND HILLARY did NOT campaign there!! - She came in LATE - 'election nite' - and THANKED her supporters - which - by the way - was only shown in brief synopsis on any news! AND Obama DID campaign there - for WEEKS -- with HUGE - constant - TV ads (which he conveniently said - were unable to be stopped - from going in to FL - and they were designed for GA.! THOSE voters definately are being 'disenfranchised' -- and are being treated VERY unfairly - since it was NOT the Democratic voters (or political leaders there) - fault - that their primary was moved up -- It was the REPUBLICAN Legislatures - who voted to move the date! WHY therefore - shud the Democrat candidates and/or voters be punished?! THEIR vote SHUD STAND! - It was done FAIR and SQUARE!!!
We were not pleased about the 'exaggerated comments of the woman speaking about Hillary's 'supposed, claim' - that she had been saying that she 'composed the Children's Health Care plan! -- Its apparent - that in ANY campaign - ANYone will paint their part as high as posible -- AS OBAMA has done! -- She HAD had a great deal to do with it's makeup and getting any power, furthermore. Kennedy, is acting like 'whiney Kerry' -- They are both 'childish, and small' -- does'nt flatter either of them. We are disappointed with the both of them!! (And we were ON Kerry's committee here in IA - my being a Cptn at Caucus for him. He has REALLY digusted me - with both his 'stupid' - un-thought out comments - during the last couple of years, AND his statements onTV last Sun - when discussing the MI - FL 're-vote' -- his having 'flung' insults about Hillary - rather than 'stay on the topic' and issue of what he was supposed to be 'on theshow' (and the committee) FOR -- to work out a solution for this Primary vote mess!!
THANK you for your time.
Sincerely,
Gayle & Gerry Conklin
Precinct and Caucus Chairs,
Iowa Central Committee members
Eight months or so into the campaign, your coverage seems fairly well-balanced, with maybe just a leeetle tilt left of center. Personally, I'd like to see a lot less finger-pointing & polarization in our politics, and (just for grins) much more emphasis on finding common ground. Then maybe the Rush Limbaughs and the Al Frankens of this world would have to go out & get real jobs.
I listen daily and think that your coverage is very good and well balanced. I wish that Scott would stop his hemming and hawing in the morning and keep repeating how many days until the election every 15 mins. Scott obviously loves his voice, but sometimes it would help if he could actually compete a sentence without the usual pregnant pausing...
It is always a pleasure to listen to Scott's replacement when he is gone as the delivery is crisp and to the point. Scott has the potential to do the same - must be the early hours and lack of news to fill the time.
Rebecca, your delivery and style is excellent, great inteviewing technique - I enjoy listening to you.
I listen to Rebecca every day on the way home from work and I love her show. Her show is intelligent and balanced. I see bigger things from her. And she has a very nice voice.
Scott Walterman,
I heard you this morning talking with T.M. about the fact that Joe Biden has launched his re-election campaign for U.S. Senate. You agreed that this looked bad/funny in relation to the fact that he is running V POTUS. It is not at all uncommon. No one will beat Biden on the senate line and it holds the seat for appointment and later special election.
