XM2go Battery Recall

XM2go BatteryThe battery supplied with XM2go units has been recalled, and XM Satellite Radio is voluntarily replacing the old battery with a new one. Apparently the problem is that the old battery can overheat (creating the risk for melting or a burn hazard) - though I haven't heard of anyone experiencing this problem.

New purchasers of XM2go units will have the new battery included within their package (so your Xmas presents are most likely OK). Subscribers are being sent a new battery free of charge in the coming weeks. There's really not any call for concern, this has been a fairly common thing happening in the CE world (Dell just recently did a big recall on their own batteries). Also note that this is a voluntary recall so show your thanks by hugging a XM (or Delphi, or Giant, or Pioneer) employee.

The new batteries are white with black lettering (pictured right). If you have any questions about this, give them a call at 800-261-7628.

I purchased a Delphi M yFi in June of 2006 at Sam's Club in Huntsville, Alabama which had the old black battery in the package. I was totally unaware of any problem or the recall until I attempted to activate my radio. I have attempted to get the replacement via phone calls to XMRadio and Delphi without success so far. When I asked the management at Sam's about the issue, they were unaware of any aspect of the battery problem or the recall. They still have the MyFi radios on the shelf now for sale with the old black "hazardous" batteries.

I received a Delphi XM2GO for Christmas. I also received the replacement battery and installed as instructed, although Id had no problem with the original battery. Now the replacement battery died - will not take a charge, nothing. Who do call for a replacement replacement?

I would like to buy a xm2go battery. I have an address in South Dakota, however I am living in Canada, so I am not eligible to get a replacement battery according to xm radio. Please, get back to me at hspence@mts.net - I am paying for air time and no way of listening. HELP!!!

My replacement battery died the other day also - unit was playing fine and just stopped in the middle of a song. I took the battery in and out a couple times to no avail - I thought the whole unit was dead. Then I remembered where the old battery was... and presto! I'm back on line with the old black battery. I see replacements for sale at $29.99 to $49.99. I think I'll just keep the $'s in my pocket for now and take the battery out of the unit when not in use (when I remember).
