XM's new Spanish-language channel: Caricia

CariciaXM has launched a new Spanish-language channel called Caricia, which features music from popular artists, such as Julio Iglesias, Jose Feliciano, Roberto Carlos, Leo Dan, Jose Jose, Leonardo Favio, Armando Manzanero, Nino Bravo, Camilo Sesto and more.

Caricia (ch 93) is currently airing on XM Radio Online and on the Satellite Radio service.

The channel - which focuses on Spanish-language oldies hits from the 60s, 70s and 80s (aka "musica del recuerdo") - brings XM's total Spanish-language music offering up to four channels. (Correction: XM's Spanish-language music offering was already at 4 channels, see details below.) That's in addition to XM Deportivo, CNN En Espanol and MLB Play by Play en Espanol.

As a result, XM is touting that they offer "the most Spanish language programming on satellite radio."

UPDATE: Caricia is replacing Fuego on the satellite radio service, though Fuego will continue to be heard on XM Radio Online and on DirecTV. Fuego's programming - reggaeton - has been incorporated into Caliente (ch 94), which XM considers to be a better fit.

"Our listeners wanted a channel dedicated to Spanish-language hits, and Caricia was added as a result," a XM spokesperson told Orbitcast. "It appeals to a broader audience."

This is the channel that's been on DirecTV for a while I believe.

I think Sirius & XM really need to tap the spanish speaking market. Those stations on FM are killing in the raitings.

Are you kidding me? They got rid of Fuego to make room for this station, so the number of Spanish music stations they are offering has remained the SAME - NOT INCREASED!!! What a load of BS.... In addition, Fuego was more popular than Caricia will ever be.

Great! More Spanish Stations. Just like terr. radio.

Wait... you're right, Fuego is killed as a result of this?? I didn't notice that.

Let me do some asking around, because I can't believe they would drop Fuego.

Yo no comprende'

I've updated the post to include the status of Fuego. Thankfully, reggaeton programming has been incorporated into Caliente as well.

Also, on DirecTV and XMRO, Fuego lives!

Hooray... more crap... They should have used the Fuego bandwidth to help out some of the rock channels. Ethel , XMLM, Da Boneyard.. they all sound like crap. All the music channels have SQ issues and adding ANOTHER channel is NOT going to help...

I'm afraid to see how many channels they'll have to pre-empt come baseball season.

ArtieLange is right. Part of the reason I got XM for my mother, instead of Sirius like I have, was for the Spanish music selection. She loves the new Caricia channel, and I'm sure that tapping into the Latino market is a winning strategy. Let's face it, in the biggest media markets like LA and NY, the Spanish channels are the ratings leaders.

Funny, the one Spanish station in Philladelphia converted to Alternative a few months ago. Guess it wasn't killing there.

Can I have my XM Music Lab back on the air before we add more stations most of us can't understand please?
